A learning journey
Maisy was as cute as a button when we brought her home!!!
We were looking forward to learning and enjoying many great show experiences with her.
We did everything just as we were told by her breeders.
Information concerning boxers in general was devoured with great gusto!
Maisy has numerous allergies (food, insects etc.) as well as extra internal eyelashes that scratch her eyeball and has, over the years, caused eye ulcers, not to mention a heart condition.
I could go into all of her conformation faults but don't want to bore you. Even though these do affect her likelihood of arthritis and aches and pains in old age due to having an unsound physical structure.
Since having Maisy we have gained a fair amount of knowledge about Boxers, breeders, canine nutrition, canine anatomy and locomotion, ethics, and the list goes on.
As we felt seriously about the ethics and care of our dog we had her desexed, and she remains our ever faithful friend and pet.
As a result of our learning we have resolved to always be honest, diligent, careful and have the dog and it's breeds' best interest at heart.
We are fully aware that even reputable breeders who are known for their integrity and diligence can unwittingly produce an unsatisfactory dog.
However we also know that there are those whom would be considered by the larger dog world, as ' backyard breeders'.
These are such that usually are not known by any reputable breeders. You can tell this about them as they have little knowledge of genetics, disease, nutrition, conformation, and display an ignorance to new or updated information widely circulating the general dog world.
Often these people ask little or no questions of you, regarding the suitablilty of your lfestyle, or ability to house a pup, not to mention the adult dog.
Sometimes, they will appear in a hurry for you to come and get it and take it home, even before you have met them or the or the pup.
At the end of the day Maisy is a precious pet and she relishes a mean game of 'Get the ball' and guards our home with great fervour.
She is a sweet girl, and is a good girl.
Vets and others can poke and prod and she never balks.
She welcomes all with passion.
Everybody just LOVES Maisy and if I could count the amount of people who have stated they could take her home and keep her.....well.. I couldn't count!!!
She's here for the long haul and is happy to do so, but we just couldn't replicate a boxer with her 'issues'.
As I watch her sleeping, as I am now, I am glad that she found herself in our home where she is loved and cherished.
